Board Announces New School Leader

The Saint Bernard School Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Nanci DeRobbio as Interim President of Saint Bernard School, effective July 1, 2026.

Following the announcement of Head of School Don Macrino’s retirement earlier this year, the Board undertook a thoughtful process to identify a leader who could provide continuity, stability, and mission-centered leadership during this important transitional period for the school community.

Throughout the selection process, Mrs. DeRobbio met with a Board-appointed search committee, representative groups of faculty and staff, and the full Board of Directors. She impressed all involved with her warmth, authenticity, leadership experience, and deep understanding of the mission and values that define Saint Bernard School.

Mrs. DeRobbio brings decades of educational leadership experience across private, public, and charter school settings. She is widely respected for her work in school administration, community engagement, strategic planning, advancement, fundraising, and development.

She also has strong ties to the greater New London community and a deep commitment to Catholic education and faith formation. A practicing Catholic and active parishioner at St. Brendan the Navigator Parish in New London, Mrs. DeRobbio understands the important role Catholic identity plays in the life of Saint Bernard School. She is also already a familiar face within the community as the proud grandparent of two current Saint Bernard students.

“Early in our discussions, Mr. Macrino himself recommended Nanci DeRobbio to the Board as someone uniquely qualified to help lead Saint Bernard into its next chapter,” said Brother Lawrence Harvey, C.F.X., Chair of the Saint Bernard School Board of Directors.

Mr. Macrino shared his confidence in the transition, stating:

“When you love a child, but must trust him/her to someone else, you must be sure that person will care for the child as you have. I have known Nanci for many years and know of her work as an educator and humanitarian. As I pass the torch to Nanci DeRobbio, I am certain that she will care for the students, staff, and community of Saint Bernard’s as I have.”

The Board of Directors expressed confidence that Mrs. DeRobbio’s experience, energy, and commitment to mission will serve Saint Bernard School exceptionally well during the coming year as she builds upon the strong foundation established during Mr. Macrino’s remarkable tenure.
