Senior Honored as 2024 MLK Scholar

Senior Shem Adams was honored Tuesday night as a 2024 Martin Luther King, Jr., Scholar.

He was recognized at an annual award ceremony, along with 11 other local students chosen as MLK Scholars.

Each scholar will receive $25,000 toward college. Shem plans to attend Boston University to study cybersecurity and finance.

"Being a MLK Scholar means to embody Dr. King's traits such as perseverance, justice, and equality," Shem says. "It helped me to realize that I can use my traits to help others in the community by applying them in practical ways whether it is through mentoring or promoting equality in the community."
