The honorees

Ziyan, or “Tommy” as he is known to teachers and students, is very involved in school clubs and activities. He participates in tennis club, chess club, Math Honor Society, Math Madness, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Student Council, and Symphonic Band.

Ziyan, 13, of Uncasville, also keeps busy outside of school. He take piano lessons, ice skates, and swims.

His teachers say he is a consistently hard-working student who is very helpful and kind to those around him. He maintains a positive attitude and is friendly to teachers and students alike.

“What I like most is the school community. I know many people here and it’s a great community,” he says. “The classes are interesting, plus I get to do many activities!”

Patrick, 16, of Norwich, plays football on the school’s co-op football team, the Thames River Crusaders, and plans to play basketball in the winter. He is a founder of the Norwich Ping Pong Club.

Teachers describe Patrick as a great student and a very dependable teammate. They say he is an engaging scholar with his fellow students and is often seen assisting others both in the classroom and in the hallways. He is compassionate, engaged in the classroom, and continues to be a positive influence in the Saint Bernard community.

“I like all the different electives that the school offers,” Patrick says, noting he is looking forward to taking pottery next year.
