Congratulations to our October Students of the Month - Valerie Martin, a sixth-grader, and Miloura Francois, a senior. These students were nominated by their teachers as individuals who are living out one or more of the Xaverian values of humility, compassion, trust, simplicity, and zeal.

The honorees

Valerie, 11, of Baltic, is a new student this year but already is a shining light at SBS. She's a conscientious student both academically and socially, and is always seeking new ways to be active in her school community.

Valerie is a member of the middle school cross-country team and is involved in Student Council, Student Ambassador Club, choir, Culture Club, BTS Club and Music Stars.

“I like being able to participate in sports, clubs, and community service,” she says. “I am very happy to be at Saint Bernard’s. Everyone is kind.”

Teachers describe Valerie as an active learner who always gives her best at every activity. They say she is kind and a good friend to her classmates.

Outside of school, Valerie attends St. Mary’s Church.

Miloura, 16, of New London, also is very active in her school community. She started and leads “A Voice for the Voiceless” social justice club. She also participates in Student Ambassador Club, Tri-M music honor society, yearbook, the diversity awareness committee, track, and softball.

Miloura has been a key player in welcoming new students to the Saints community and is genuinely kind and respectful, according to teachers and staff. They describe her as helpful, attentive, hardworking, and an outstanding role model.

A Saint for the past four years, Miloura says she enjoys the school’s “positive and loving atmosphere”.
