October Students of the Month

Two Named October Students of the Month

Congratulations to the October Students of the Month at Saint Bernard School: Abby Mayorga, a seventh-grader, and Ethan Ortega, a senior.

Students are nominated for this honor by their teachers for exhibiting the Xaverian values of humility, trust, compassion, simplicity and zeal.
Abby, 11, of Mystic, is involved in cross-country and is a member of the Yearbook Club. Outside of school, she plays on local field hockey and lacrosse teams and attends St. Patrick’s Church.
Teachers say Abby is diligent and engaged in her work, and is always willing to help her classmates. They describe her as a “unifier” among her peers and say she is unfailingly polite to teachers and students alike.
Of what she likes most about being a Saint, Abby says, “I like the connections I have made with teachers and other students.”
Ethan, 17, of Groton, plays basketball and is a member of The Millionaires Club, National Honor Society, and the math and Spanish honor societies.
Teachers describe Ethan as selfless and always willing to lend a hand. In the classroom he works hard, is patient, and is often the “kind, cheerful helper.”
Ethan says he enjoys the sense of community among students at Saint Bernard School.
